News and Announcements

23 Sep 2020

It is with regret that we need to close CUBS on 24/09/2020 for one week as a precautionary measure.

One of our leaders is on holiday this week which left just enough leaders available to keep the section open. We have now been informed that one of the remaining leaders is now isolating due to a family member having a bad chest and waiting on test results which leaves us with an insufficient number of leaders to open.

We apologise for this inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

SCOUT SECTION – 24/09/2020 – Meet at field

20 Sep 2020

Hi all
We are planning to meet at the “rec” this week for Scouts as it gives us more space to try out some socially distanced games. Can we therefore ask for you to drop off and pick up at the bus terminus at the bottom of the field on Chapelfield road at the usual scout times?
For anyone unsure, here is the map of where I mean
See you Thursday

SCOUTS – Face covering reminder

17 Sep 2020

Hi All,

As mentioned in our important update that was sent our via website, Facebook and Twitter earlier in the week, we are now allowed to use the inside of the Scout hut where needed. The only way the SCOUT section is allowed indoors though is if all young members are wearing a face covering.

Could we therefore remind you to all bring a face covering to Scouts. If one person forgets, we cannot go inside which may take away from the planned activities.

Can I also remind all parents to check our …

Group AGM Notification

16 Sep 2020

Hi All

The group AGM has been scheduled for 14/10/2020 at 6:30pm

This year we will be doing our AGM via zoom as it would not be responsible to have a large gathering in the scout hut.

It is very important that we get a good representation from the parents and guardians in the group to ensure this is a valid AGM so we ask that you join us. The meeting will not be long but is crucial to ensure we remain open.

Details of the zoom call are:

Following the updated advice from the National Scouting headquarters, we have submitted an updated risk assessment which has now been approved. The updated advice helps the group in a number of key areas:

*Explorers will remain on Fridays for now due to leader availability
2) Sections are now allowed inside where needed. We …

The return of Scouting in Thorpe Hesley!

26 Aug 2020

Dear Parent/Guardian
I am pleased to say our preparations for the return of Scouting are going well and we can now say that we will be back on the week beginning 7th September 2020!
Please note that we have had to make many changes to be able to return, some small and some not so small which I will go through briefly below.
Day changes
As leaders are not allowed to do more than one section per day, we have been forced to move the BEAVER section to FRIDAYS. The session times will remain at 3:45pm …

COVID-19 update – Important please read

16 Mar 2020

We have been waiting news from National headquarters following the announcements made earlier. The email has just come through and states:
“Late this afternoon, the Prime Minister has said that everyone in the UK should now avoid non-essential travel and contact with others.

Given this guidance, all face-to-face Scout meetings, activities and events must be suspended from tomorrow, Tuesday, 17 March 2020. This suspension applies to young people and adults, and will be until further notice.
We must continue to respond to the developing situation in a calm, measured and …

24 Jun 2019

Dear all,
Our last individual meetings will be on the 4th of July.  This will also be the last day for bringing in slips and deposits for the Beaver and Cub trip to Kingswood.
Meetings will re-start on Thursday 5th September.
On the 11th July is our annual BBQ for everybody to enjoy, followed by our AGM (this obviously replaces usual meetings.)   It is important that every child in every section is represented at the AGM please.   Should we not have enough parents attended and the meeting is cancelled, the scout group will close until such time as the meeting …
