If you’ve seen us around the village and wondered what we actually do every week, here is the breakdown:

🏕️ Adventure with a Purpose

From camping under the stars at Hesley Wood to navigating the trails around Thorpe Hesley, we give young people the chance to step out of their comfort zones. Whether it’s climbing, archery, or building a fire, we’re all about learning by doing.

🤝 Skills for Life

We aren’t just teaching how to tie knots (though we’re pretty good at that!). We’re building:

  • Confidence to speak up and lead.
  • Resilience to try again when things get tough.
  • Teamwork to solve problems together.

🧡 Powered Entirely by Volunteers

One thing many people don’t realise is that there are no paid “staff” at the 42nd. Every single Leader, Assistant, and Committee Member is a local volunteer. We are parents, neighbors, and friends who give our time because we love seeing our community’s young people thrive.

✋ We Need Your Help!

Our group is incredibly popular—so popular, in fact, that our youth waiting lists are currently full. The only way we can open up more spaces and get more local children off the waiting list and into the adventure is with more adult volunteers. You don’t need to be an outdoors expert to join us; you just need a bit of tea-making skill, a sense of humor, or a spare hour a week.
